To diagnose gastritis the most common test is endoscopy (gastro copy) with biopsy in the stomach.
There are other tests that your doctor may recommend to verify the cause of gastritis or any other complications, including:
Upper Gastrointestinal series: for these tests the doctor gives drinking barium to the patient, which is a liquid that makes the digestive tract visible on an x-ray. The x-ray images reveal changes in the lining of the stomach, erosions or ulcers.
Examination of blood: with this test the doctors can detect anemia. The condition in which you see decreased blood hemoglobin, an iron-rich substance. Anemia can be a sign of chronic bleeding in the stomach.
Evidence of infection by Helicobacter Pylori: through examinations of stool, blood or biopsy taken during endoscopy of the stomach, you can define if the patient suffers from infection by this bacterium.
